The crisis within the Washington State Ferries affects the economic health and quality of life of people and businesses across the state. Children are stranded on docks, ambulances are delayed on hospital runs, patients miss medical treatments, residents are losing wages, and small businesses are losing employees and income.
Ferries are the lifeblood for so many in Washington. It's time for change and time for solutions. The regional Fix Our Ferries coalition is dedicated to a focused purpose: securing commitments from the governor and the Washington state legislature to make real, lasting investments and structural improvements to fix our marine highways.
We are made up of citizen action organizations from communities that extend the length and breadth of the Puget Sound, from the San Juan Islands to Vashon Island. Coalition partners meet each month to discover shared goals and hone grassroots organizing tactics. We also collaborate to recruit more communities and organizations to participate.
Our July get-it-done letter to the governor, legislators, and Washington State Ferries (WSF) officials stating our three core priorities, is our first joint action. Read the full press release including quotes from coalition partners here.
Our next project? Our November legislative summit will bring together legislators representing ferry-affected communities and transportation stakeholders to work together with citizen activists. We plan and finalize realistic ferry crisis relief goals for the 2025 legislative session.
Communities in our state have spoken loud and clear about the hardship of this crisis. Now it’s time to advance solutions that our elected representatives can help put to work.
