The Fix Our Ferries coalition advocates for our communities and for the 18 million people who ride the Washington State Ferries annually. On March 6th, Governor Bob Ferguson announced a major win for ferry-served communities: Washington State Ferries (WSF) will restore full service to domestic routes starting this June. Fix Our Ferries thanks the Governor for making this possible by delaying the planned electrification conversion of the remaining two Jumbo Mark II vessels, prioritizing urgently needed service restorations.
While the announcement is a significant step forward, the work is not done. Our communities know that resiliency challenges remain. The ferry system still faces staffing shortages, vessel reliability challenges, and long-term funding needs. The Fix Our Ferries coalition remains committed to pushing for ongoing investments in our marine highways. We must still build new boats. We must invest in crew.
We encourage all community members to stay informed, participate in upcoming public meetings, and continue advocating for a fully functional and equitable ferry system.
